Target passport photos: no longer available in store

Target stopped doing passport photos in store when it closed its Photo Centers in January 2022. What is left is a mail-order service at about $15.49 that takes one to two weeks. If you need photos today, you have better options, and if you are willing to cut them out yourself the cost drops to about 39 cents.

This service no longer exists

Target closed every in-store Photo Center in January 2022 and has not brought passport photos back. The only Target-branded option now is mail order through target.com photo services: roughly $15.49 for four 2x2 photos printed on a 5x7 sheet, delivered in about 6 to 14 days. That is no use if you have an appointment this week.

What to watch out for at Target

  • Many Target stores have a CVS pharmacy inside, and some of those do walk-in passport photos for about $16.99. This varies by location and is not a Target service, so call ahead rather than making the trip.
  • Pages still advertising a Target one-hour photo counter are out of date; those closed in January 2022.
  • Target's mail-order photos arrive on a 5x7 sheet you cut yourself, which is the same work as printing our free sheet, for roughly 40 times the price.

Turnaround

Mail order takes roughly 6 to 14 days. There is no same-day option at Target itself.

Common questions

Does Target take passport photos?

Not in store. Target closed all of its in-store Photo Centers in January 2022. You can order passport photos through target.com and have them mailed, but nobody at the store will photograph you.

How much are Target passport photos?

About $15.49 for four 2x2 photos printed on a 5x7 sheet, delivered by post in roughly 6 to 14 days. For comparison, Walmart charges $7.64 same-day at the counter, and printing our free sheet costs about 19 to 42 cents.

Can I get a passport photo at the CVS inside Target?

Sometimes. Many Target stores have a CVS pharmacy inside, and some of those offer walk-in passport photos for about $16.99. It varies by location and the hours differ from the main store, so phone ahead before going.

What is the fastest alternative to Target?

Any Walmart, Walgreens or CVS photo counter will do it in 10 to 15 minutes. Cheaper still, make your photo free here and print the 4x6 sheet at one of those stores for well under a dollar, which gives you six photos instead of two or four.

Will a photo I print myself be accepted?

Yes, provided it follows the rules: 2x2 inches, correct head size, plain white background, taken in the last six months, and printed in colour on photo-quality paper. A drugstore 4x6 print meets the paper requirement. A home inkjet print on plain paper does not.
